Healthybit food for thought on Family. Is this everything there is to know about family - no way. It's just a few lessons we've learned and are learning along the way.
Family, oh how I love my family. My husband and I have two wonderful children and we live just outside Austin Texas. I currently homeschool our two kiddo's and we absolutly love it!
If your family is anything like my family sometimes the little sqawbles over who left the lid off the toothpaste can be a bit much. Family is very rewarding and yes it does come with it's challenges. As with any relationship it takes effort on our part. (we are the adults right?)
I like to look at every challenge as an opportunity to grow and learn. One thing that helps a bunch is keeping the lines of communication always open. Take a deep interest in your kids. When you ask them how their day went at school and they say good don't leave it at that. Ask deeper more probing questions. Really find out what they are doing. I'll share an example of what I mean. Several years back when my kids where in public school I would always ask them how their day went, keep in mind I volunteered in each of their classes every week. They would typically reply with "it was fine", "good", "okay" and I would move on to the next topic. Had I probed a little more by maybe asking "so what exactly did you do in music today?" I would have found out that their music teacher was not exactly telling them a story I would have told them. It wasn't until my girlfriend had called me did I find out what was going on. That was a big wake up for me on several fronts but my main point here is to really take a deep interest in what is going on in the lives of your children.
We all get so busy with life in general. But let's not get so busy we don't have time to spend meaningful time with our children. Ride bikes with them, read a book with them, have a weekly game night. Do more than just eat dinner with them. God has given you these wonderful gifts called "children" be like a little child on Christmas morning - embrace your gifts to the fullest for all the years you have with them.
Let you children know how much you appreciate them. So many kids these days are lacking love. How many times have you hugged your child today?
Above making sure your kids get plenty of rest, excerise and eating right, help them form healty habits and goals now. One thing I encourage my kids to do every morning is have their devotion time. It so much easier for form good habits when your younger then say when your my age. Does it take time - YES, but what better investment can you make. We all aspire to have our children do better then we did, well this is one way you can help them do that.
We have many favorite things we like to do as a family, one of them is going to Branson Mo. - we find Silver Dollar City such a wonderfully refreshing place to visit. What is one of your favorite family activities?
